Breast Health Classes and Screening Mammograms for Women with Intellectual Disabilities
The Oak Hill Center for Relationship & Sexuality Education (CRSE) offers free breast health classes for women with intellectual disabilities. This project is made possible through the generous support of the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure (www.komenct.org).
The goal of this program is to increase the comfort, awareness and skill of women with intellectual disabilities in relation to breast health. Content includes power point slides, a video on the GYN exam including clinical breast exam, and practicing the skill of breast self examination on a life size female doll, anatomical models and breast vests. Women enjoy the fellowship of these classes, take great pride in learning the information and in receiving a certificate of accomplishment. Caregivers who attend are able to assist the women to generalize what they learn and practice it in their daily life.
Free breast health classes are offered throughout Connecticut. Join a scheduled class at Oak Hill's NEAT Marketplace or contact us to schedule a class at your own location.
