Positive Choices Teen Program:

Positive Choices is a new curriculum for High School students with developmental and intellectual disabilities developed through the generous support of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Hartford, Connecticut, and The Special Hope Foundation of Palo Alto, California.

This comprehensive adapted health curriculum, was piloted with youth in the Greater Hartford area in 2007.  An Advisory Board of area educators, parents, and self-advocates served to inspire and guide the project.

The core curriculum includes 31 units on relationships and self-awareness, maturation, the life cycle, sexual health, and making Positive Choices.

 

Included with this program are:

  • A fully illustrated student manual
  • Pre- and post-assessments
  • Teaching strategies designed to meet school health education standards
  • A CD-ROM with anatomical illustrations for teacher use
  • Supplementary activities for each unit, such as scenarios for role play and discussion, key word matches, and many other activities to increase critical thinking
  • Chapter tests and rubrics to assess retention and generalization of concepts acquired. 

 

The anticipated publication date for this curriculum is December 2008.
